Sur Seeds continues to demonstrate in the field one of the benchmark varieties in long cucumber, Bazán F1 — a variety that has been part of the company’s portfolio for several seasons and has won over vegetable growers specializing in the cucumber known as Dutch or Almería type.
Bazán F1 is recommended for sowing from October 5 to November 15, depending on the growing area. In the case of the farm we recently visited, located in the municipality of El Ejido, between Almerimar and Matagorda, cultivation began in mid-November. Despite this, the farmer has harvested approximately 8 kilos per square meter to date, as explained by Germán Ureña Nieto, Sur Seeds’ sales technician, who accompanied us and presented the variety.
Bazán F1 develops a plant with a strong root system, an open structure, and dark leaves. “It regrows very well and can adapt to the farmer’s decision to extend the cycle,” Germán Ureña Nieto explains. Thanks to its open structure, it is less susceptible to disease and allows plenty of light penetration.
This variety is highly productive, developing several fruits (up to four or five) per node. It features a dark green color with pronounced ribbing.

Bazán F1, a long cucumber variety from Sur Seeds, has a strong resistance package, including CGMMV, powdery mildew, yellowing, and yellow vein virus. In addition, although it does not officially carry resistance to New Delhi virus, Bazán F1 shows good field performance against it.
Sur Seeds is a company based in Almería that has positioned itself as a benchmark for farmers in peppers and cucumbers, among other vegetable crops.
