BASF concluded its participation in the 18th Plant Health Symposium with a clear message: the future of plant health depends on integrating biological solutions, digital tools and next‑generation chemical innovations. For three days, the event held in Seville served as a showcase for the company to present the evolution of its strategy, in which BioSolutions, xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions, Axalion® and a new member of the Enervin® family played a leading role as key examples of an integrated approach.
This year, BASF’s stand placed a strong emphasis on BioSolutions by BASF, an expanding portfolio that —according to the company— is set to become a key pillar of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes. These biological solutions, designed to enrich, strengthen and protect crops, complement conventional protection methods and respond to a growing demand for more sustainable alternatives.
In parallel, BASF has highlighted the contribution of xarvio® Digital Farming Solutions, presented as a decisive technology for turning the complexity of the field into more informed decisions. Powered by its agronomic engine — capable of integrating weather data, phenological information, plant‑health risk indicators, satellite imagery and regulatory requirements — the platform provides farmers with efficient, traceable recommendations, reinforcing the role of digitalisation as a key ally in addressing the sector’s current agronomic and regulatory challenges.
One of the most talked‑about announcements was the introduction of a new solution under the Enervin® umbrella, which BASF positions as a groundbreaking reference for anti‑downy mildew programmes in vegetables and vineyards. Its ready‑to‑use formulation, good selectivity and miscibility, along with its fit within IPM strategies, captured the attention of attendees. From a communications standpoint, the company has opted for a highly visual and creative approach that highlights its ability to contribute to improved crop health.
In the field of insecticide innovation, BASF presented Axalion® Active, a new insecticidal molecule belonging to a novel chemical class with a unique mode of action (IRAC 36). Designed for the effective control of sucking and piercing pests across a wide range of crops, Axalion® combines high efficacy with compatibility with beneficial organisms and excellent overall performance. These features make it a valuable tool in resistance‑management strategies within IPM programmes and in sustainable agricultural production. The active ingredient is currently being evaluated by the European authorities.
BASF’s presence at the Symposium reinforces its commitment to supporting an agriculture capable of adapting to evolving European requirements while also meeting the practical needs of Spanish farmers. The company highlighted that, alongside the expansion of biological and digital tools, chemical solutions remain essential to ensuring effective and long‑lasting crop protection. Its strategy in Spain is precisely oriented towards combining these approaches — biological, digital and chemical — in a complementary way, enabling farmers to better manage their operations, adapt to regulatory changes and maintain high‑quality, value‑added production in an increasingly complex environment.
