The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia, Rodrigo Sánchez Haro, has requested the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) to estimate a budget item, to guarantee those affected by the Xylella Fastidiosa the greater agility in the process of his indemnifications. Sánchez Haro also advocates establishing a “legal framework that gives security to farmers” and avoid possible inequalities between producers who may be affected by Xylella fastidiosa in different Autonomous Communities.
Sánchez Haro considers it “essential” to have a standard that unifies the amount and the criteria for the calculation of the compensations established by the Plant Health Law
Speaking at the Regional Conference on Agriculture and Rural Development held on 10th July in Madrid, Rodrigo Sánchez stressed that the fight against this bacterium is “a matter of absolute priority” for Andalusia and that, as the representatives of the sector gathered in the Plant Health Bureau last week, the Xylella “must be fought between all: administrations and private agents.”
“Our intention is to work closely with the Ministry, reinforcing the national strategy and extreme the measures contemplated in the Andalusian Strategy,” said the counselor
This planning includes measures of monitoring, prevention and detection of the bacteria, as well as research, training and dissemination of information.
The Ministry of Agriculture works in the fight against Xylella fastidiosa since 2014 articulating actions to avoid its arrival in the Autonomous Community and monitoring the state of the Andalusian countryside. To date, all controls performed have been negative for this bacterium.
