Boosting the number of industries authorized to export to third countries, in a clear commitment to the internationalization of their activity, is one of the main challenges facing the sector of the ham industry, according to the meeting held in mid Of November by the Working Group of Ham Companies of the National Association of the Meat Industries of Spain (ANICE), which groups manufacturing companies from all over Spain. A meeting that served to analyze the situation of the sector and advance in the resolution of the main challenges that this industrial group must face.
The first edition of the Food Awards of Spain to the Best Ham 2016, granted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (MAPAMA) has been awarded with the award, in the category of 100% Iberian acorn ham, "Encinares del Sur" of the PDO Los Pedroches, presented by Dehesas Reunidas, SL, Belmez (Córdoba).
The organization of the 9th Congress and General Assembly of the Spanish Association of Denominations of Origin (ORIGEN ESPAÑA), to be held next year, will be the responsibility of the DOP Jabugo. This event, which recently held its last edition in San Sebastián, run by the DOP Idiazabal, represents the ideal meeting place for all the agro-food sector of differentiated quality, bringing together a large number of Protected Designations of Origin (PDOs) and Protected Geographical Indications (PGI).
During the meeting of the General Council of Agrifood Interprofessional Organizations, held on September 27th and which has chaired the Secretary General of Agriculture and Food, Carlos Cabanas, has been reported favorably on the extension of standard for the whole of the Iberian pig industry. This is the fourth extension of standard managed by the Interprofessional Association of Iberian pig (ASICI), which will last five years from its entry into force by publishing the corresponding ministerial order.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has convened for the first time the "Spain Food Award for Best Ham 2016" distinction with which it wants to contribute to promoting the quality ham and to improve its image and market positioning. This award includes modalities "Best Jamon Serrano or other Recognised figures Quality" and "Best Iberian Bellota ham".
Within the promotional tour that the Interprofessional Association of Iberian Pig (ASICI) has been developing throughout Europe, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), the Iberian hams of Spain will represent the highest quality in flavor in the London Queens tennis tournament (considered as the prelude to Wimbledon), held from 13 to 19 June. Rafa Nadal, the only Spanish player to win Queens (2008) and one of the seven players able to complete the double title-Wimbledon Queen's Club in the same year, is the image of this Spanish gourmet product for the European promotional campaign.
Iberian Hams of Spain will be present from 15 to 21 May at the Open de Nice Cote D'Azur, a tennis tournament on clay. More than 30,000 attendees who come every year can enjoy this flagship product reaching the French Riviera next to the image of Rafa Nadal. The action is part of the European tour that takes the Interprofessional Iberian Pig (ASICI) to publicize Spain's Iberian Hams outside our borders.
The benchmark of Spanish gastronomy will be present in the most important tennis tournament and with greater impact in Italy, with 400 accredited journalists and 400,000 spectators each year. Attendees will taste the best Iberian hams directly from the hands of a professional cutter.
